Humans retain and use memory in every aspect of their life.
What is memory? Memory can be described as a holder and transmitter of vast evolving imprints of details. Moreover, different types of memory decide how information is stored. Some types of memory include episodic memory, semantic memory, procedural memory, short term memory, sensory memory and prospective memory. Each of these types of memory has its own function. For example, the short-term memory involves information that occurs for a short period of time. Long term memory includes episodic memory which refers to specific events or details of one’s life.
It has an unlimited capacity for storing information. The explicit and implicit aspect of long-term memory establishes conscious and unconscious recollection of information (Di Tullio, 2021). Semantic memory is also another form of long-term memory. This type of memory stores educational information and the meaning and relatedness of concepts. Procedural memory is another type of long-term memory transmits information about learnt concepts and techniques over a period. Sensory memory can be both short and long-term.
This is type of memory that provides details generated by the senses. There is also working memory that has a limited capacity and temporary storage. As previously established, each type of memory has its own function. Each type of memory has its own unique importance in the field of education. (Di Tullio, 2021) mentions that the memories of students can be improved based on assigned tasks.
